About YCKC

The Youth Chorus of Kansas City was founded in 2017 to provide opportunities for ambitious young singers throughout the Kansas City area to sing, learn, and grow in an environment that is safe, fun and challenging.

Who we are
Youth Chorus of Kansas City teaches, inspires and empowers young singers to be life-long music makers who seek excellence in everything they do.

Executive Director Ryan Main has been leading choirs for more than a dozen years, as a middle and high school music teacher, choral clinician leading workshops in schools across the region, and church choir director. He is passionate about quality music education and its power to uplift, challenge, connect and transform the lives of young people of all backgrounds.

What we do
We currently offer two choral groups, both for treble voices – one for grades 3-6, and an advanced group for singers in grades 7-10(and advanced 5th and 6th graders).

We present two major concerts per season in December and May, as well as additional opportunities throughout the year. Singers perform in a YCKC-provided shirt and their own black slacks and shoes.

We hold auditions before each season. All singers must demonstrate a willingness to learn and work together in a group environment.

We also expect students to participate in their school music program, if there is one. We work in harmony with schools to help students develop skills and contribute in their home schools.

Rehearsals are Mondays at 6 to 7 p.m. for the grades 3-6 group, and 7 to 8:15 p.m. for the advanced choir, at St. Mary’s Episcopal Church in Downtown Kansas City.

What it costs
Tuition is $50 per month ($450 total) for the nine-month (September through May) season, which includes the performance shirt, sheet music and rehearsal space. There may be occasional extra costs for families, such as tickets to sporting events where the chorus is singing the National Anthem.

Scholarships are available for those in financial need. Contact us for more information.
