Jana Houston
Director of YCKC Singers, Voice Specialist, Literacy Teacher

Jana Houston teaches 7th and 8th grade choir at Hocker Grove Middle School in the Shawnee Mission School District. She has taught in public schools since 2014, previously serving the students at Argentine Middle School in Kansas City, KS. Jana earned her Bachelor of Music Education from the University of Missouri-Kansas City in 2014 and is currently in course work for a Masters in Music Education and Vocal Pedagogy at the University of Kansas. 

​As an active teacher and coach, Jana has experience working with students of all ages. She served 3 years as a vocal instructor for the Shawnee Mission South Summer Raiders Camp, coaches part-time with the Kansas City Chorus and their quartets, as well as teaching private voice lessons. She has served as a section leader and part-time assistant director at Village Presbyterian Church since 2014. Jana sang with Te Deum for 4 seasons and with the Kansas City Symphony Chorus for 3 seasons before joining the staff with The Youth Chorus of Kansas City.

Outside of music, Jana enjoys spending time expanding her shoe collection, rereading the Harry Potter series and being with friends and family. She lives in Lenexa, KS with her husband, Travis, and cat, Ella.
